What can I say about 2020? It has undoubtedly been a year of ups and downs for most people, I am sure. For us, 2020 has been 366 days of love, excitement and fun, as well as frustration, fear and bafflement. We have, surprisingly, still managed to do quite a lot of travelling during this time. – 7 flights took us 10,658km by air. We sailed two boats 6461 nautical miles and we enjoyed road trips and camping and travelled 4300km on land.
Our latest yacht trip, aboard SY Nomad, began in Thailand, took us through Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia during a time when the world became paralysed by fears of coronavirus. Gunshots, lockdowns, enforced quarantine, storm, engine trouble, damaged sails.
Dacoblue is a high-quality collapsible fuel bag geared towards taking the hardship out of transporting and storing extra fuel. This fuel bag is the perfect container to use as a fuel tank for your dinghy outboard motor, as well as being ideal for people making epic journeys by motorbike, car or even a snowmobile!
Percy Isles are part of the Northumberland Islands which are located south-east of Mackay, off the Queensland Coast of Australia. They can only be reached by private boat (no ferries). The island has abundant maritime history and a long tradition of welcoming cruisers. Cruisers are welcome ashore and there is a fabulous place for all to gather, chat, share sundowners or a BBQ with fellow travellers. The large A-frame structure on the beach has a few basic facilities including chairs and tables. There is lighting powered by solar panels and an information area were you can purchase the local produce. Nearby there is a BBQ, fire pit, shower and toilet.
When it was time to leave Koh Phayam we pulled up the anchor and pushed the accelerator lever into forward. Surprisingly we didn’t move forward; the motor just revved in neutral! We had no forward or reverse. While Dwayne fiddled with the accelerator lever we were, unbeknownst to Brian and Debra, slowly drifting over towards SV Chinook…..
Hauling out was easy with the experienced staff at Phitak Shipyard Services, and soon Thorfinn was safely on a cradle and we were set up in a small apartment along with a snake, a few rats and a couple of large spiders! It was a very busy time for us but in true Trippin’ Turpin fashion we still were able to have a lot of fun… We had regular BBQs with our neighbours in the little row of units (we dubbed Ramsey St), and at the shipyard itself we had BBQ night on Fridays as well as some during the week for birthdays… including Dwayne’s 50th.
Our first year cruising outside of Australian waters has included Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Some countries we sailed to and others we flew to; we even rode into one and caught a bus into another. This blog is a recap of our journey in 2015….. Thank you to all our followers. I hope you will continue to cruise with us in 2016, and that I will be able to carry on entertaining and informing you about the wonderful, exciting and sometimes bewildering places we visit.
